Javea - Moraira - Benitachell

Wheelchair symbolCompleted during the first half of 2001, VillaBABAR is a new villa built on one of the last sites remaining in an established development on the outskirts of Benitachell which enjoys fabulous views across open country to Mount Montgo (known locally as Elephant Mountain) and is equidistant between the seaside towns of Moraira and Javea at the northern end of the Costa Blanca, on Spain's Mediterranean coast.
Villa BABAR was designed specifically to be accessible to a wheelchair user and so is an ideal choice if you and/or one of your party have limited mobilty.
The villa is one of the popular "Cap Moraira" style which, in its standard configuration, is a three bedroomed property offering accommodation for up to six. The interior layout of VillaBABAR was however altered at the design stage so as to afford luxurious living space for a maximum of just four people.
This of course means that the number of bedrooms in the villa is reduced to two, giving an unusually spacious master bedroom and ensuite bathroom.
One of the primary reasons behind the changes we made to the original "Cap Moraira" layout was the need to make the villa fully accessible to a wheelchair user. This was achieved simply by removing the usual obstacles such as steps, doorways which are too narrow etc.,

Access from the Car Port to the Terrace round the Villa is by way of a ramp with a gradient of approx 1:12;
The Terrace extends to a generous 60m2 giving plenty of room for a wheelchair user to move about;
The Terrace, Swimming Pool and Villa are all on the one level with no steps or kerbs to be negotiated;
The main door into the villa, the door into the master bedroom, the door into the ensuite bathroom and the walk-through from the dining area to the kitchen all have a clearance of 85cm;
The door into the guest bedroom has clearance of 75cm;
The door into the shower room has a clearance of 70cm; and
The back door of the villa, which leads out to the rotary clothes drier and the gas storage tank, has a clearance of 65cm.
The master bedroom extends the full width of the Villa - again to afford plenty of room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre;
In the ensuite bathroom, the tiled bath surround incorporates an integral seat to facilitate transfers to and from the bath; and
The French windows leading from the master bedroom to the Terrace and Swimming Pool are asymmetric so that opening just the wider (90cm) door provides enough space for a wheelchair to pass through

PLEASE NOTE HOWEVER THAT:-
The Villa has not been adapted by the installation of any special equipment; and
Although the shower room is wheelchair accessible, the shower cabinet is a standard fitment and is not intended to be suitable for a guest with a serious disability.
